jeers! to TicketMaster

It’s not just TicketMaster

I had a very similar experience with Staples a few months back. I was automatically subscribed to alerts I didn’t want. It took a few attempts to get my preferences changed. Because of the “you may get one more message” syndrome, the process was dragged out long than it should have been.

There were two important differences with Staples, however — first, I’d actually bought something from them, so I was a customer not just a visitor. Second, I did eventually manage to get off the Staples list. I won’t refuse to do business with them in the future (although I hope they improve their customer UI experience).

Finally, it’s not as if these problems are endemic to any online retailer. In the same time frame, I had a terrific experience with another online ticket vendor.

So you’re saying it’s actually possible to not get messages from Staples? That’s a relief.
