not so vindictive after all

On the bus recently, I saw that someone had painstakingly hacked a line from the list of doctors pictured in an ad for an HMO:

I thought someone must be really pissed off at one of the doctors.

It put me in mind of my experiences with my dad’s surgeon. I’ve been advised against mentioning any specific indentifying details, but this is a guy who says things like, “If I’d looked at the x-ray [before I operated], I wouldn’t have gone in.” Apparently there’s actually some kind of coalition of patients/victims in the doctor’s home town trying to take some kind of legal action against him. If I saw that doctor being used to promote an HMO or a hospital in an advertisement, I’d be tempted to deface his name.

But a couple of days later I saw a copy of the same ad that hadn’t been damaged. The presumed hated doctor’s name?

“From left to right:”

Heh.

Your speculations sort of remind me of my brother’s way of dealing with a bad experience he had with a car dealership. He bought some of those small, stick-on letters, and above the dealer’s insignia on the back of the car spelled out DO NOT BUY FROM.
