T-shirts unchronicled (1)

I think I saw Echo & the Bunnymen only once*, touring Songs to Learn and Sing. I remember very little of the show — it was at GWU’s Smith Center, parking was hellacious, and if there was an opener, I think we missed it. An intense rendition of “Over the Wall” was a highlight. I remember watching Will Sargeant’s hands during “The Killing Moon,” and thinking that I ought to be able to play it. I thought I saw Matt from my old dorm floor/Braver Noise** but either it wasn’t him or he pretended not to recognize me.

The shirt I remember vividly. It was one of the most ridiculous garments I’ve ever owned (and that’s saying something). It had four pastel rabbits on a field of turquoise, and on each animal head was superimposed a grainy black and white photo of a band member. On the back a vaguely menacing, ghost-like, horn-headed shape was thickly outlined in yellow. I guess it was supposed to be an echo. Dunno what happened to it — I wore it for years, long after it had begun to fade unevenly.

(This is a companion to T-shirt Chronicles)

*Then again I have a vague sense that I might have seen an even less memorable set in support of the self-titled record.

**Braver Noise! Somebody should reissue those records and charge me an arm and a leg for ‘em.
